Time Zone Clocks and Conversions

Is there a clock in the world with the exact time?

I go around my house and clocks are 1-5 minutes ahead of each other. Some by seconds. But is there a clock in the world with the exact time? Is there a clock with an exactly right time that all clocks should be set to?

Time, as best as we can get it, is only an approximate value. This is a human made thing and as such, it’s best guess. Even when using the best of scientific material available, we can only approximate true time to like trillionths of a second and that is because the machines we would use to judge time to such a degree are using what we put into it to figure out a time value. So no, no true and correct clock exits. Best bet, is a sun dial, at least 10-12 hours of a day can be recorded properly. Even then, if you used one, and tried to set a digital clock using that, you’d still be a few seconds here or there off.

Where are the original weights and measures kept?

I know that master atomic clocks at various national laboratories are synchronised through the International Time Bureau in Paris, but what about weights and measures?

All masses and lengths are standardised against the prototype kilogram and the prototype metre. Both are great scientific treasures kept in a small town called Sevres, west of Paris.
Had the opportunity of visiting the place before, but alas, these treasures are not meant for public viewing.
The place where they are kept is called the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.
However, there are several replicas made all around the world.

Anyone know where a to find a good Windows XP Desktop Clock?

I am looking for a program that will place a Clock on my desktop.

I prefer Stardock’s (www.stardock.com) DesktopX myself as it allows you to do much more than just a clock, such as weather and rss feeds. It’s not freeware though. You can try it out to see if it works for you. If you do choose to buy it, your bet bet is to get the Object Desktop Suite so you could have other great programs like ObjectDock and WindowBlinds. Once you get it, go to www.wincustomize.com and on the right side column look for DesktopX Widgets.

There is more than likely alternative free options. You could search them up using tags like widget and gadget as that is mostly what your going to be looking for.

Yahoo Widget world clocks and vista?

I have friends all over the world, so I love to have a world clock on my desktop. On my old computer that runs XP, I never had a problems with displaying the right time. But I recently bought a new one which runs Vista and even tough the system tray time is accurate, the displayed time on the the world clock ( I downloaded several widgets for that matter) are all off.
Anyone have a clue why that could be?

ITR Master Clock Correcting Time For Daylight Saving

Just for fun I recorded the daylight saving transition of one of my master clocks

This is an ITR (International Time Recording) Model 26/8/5 master clock
It is mains powered with battery back up
The movement is the same as was used in the IBM, ITR and Simplex pendulum master clocks.
It has a 30 RPM motor that simulates the pendulum.
The movement is spring driven which is maintained by a 1 RPM motor
In the event of a power failure, a small DC motor runs the clock.
There is a pulse accumulator fitted to remember the missed impulses
When the power is restored the clock corrects the slaves automatically

This clock will run both synch wired hourly correction and standard hourly supervised slaves
